Would you enjoy exploring Michigan’s varied habitats on field trips lead by some of our state’s most respected botanists? Join the Michigan Botanical Club on our annual Spring Foray, a weekend of day-long field trips and evening educational programs of interest to all plant lovers.
We are excited by the number of prime natural areas near Rogers City and Alpena that we plan to visit, including the scenic shoreline of Thompson’s Harbor State Park, and several limestone sinkholes (Michigan Karst Conservancy) rich in flora. Knowledgeable field investigators have identified additional places to botanize on state lands and preserves owned by The Nature Conservancy, Michigan Nature Association and Audubon Society.
All of the rooms at the Driftwood Motel, located on the shore of Lake Huron, are booked for the Foray. We can use all of its facilities including the indoor pool and spa. We will use its parking lot as a staging area for assembling for our field trips. All breakfasts and box lunches are included. Evening meals and programs will be held next door at The Buoy Restaurant’s banquet room.
To top it off, you will be privileged to see dazzling colonies of Michigan’s new state wildflower, the Dwarf Lake Iris, in full bloom!
