Welcome to the 2009 Michigan Botanical Club Spring Foray!

The Red Cedar Chapter welcomes you to the Greater Lansing area, the home of Michigan State University (MSU). There are several attractions to see on campus. Also, within a short drive there are numerous natural areas to visit that capture a range of habitat types, from stream, lake, marsh, bog to a variety of forest communities. The Kellogg Center on the MSU campus will be our headquarters for the weekend. The award-winning State Room restaurant is located within the Kellogg Center, which serves fine meals and has the best wine menu in town! The deadline for registration is April 21st, 2009, so don’t delay in signing up for this special weekend and make your hotel reservation soon. The Red Cedar Chapter looks forward to seeing you!

Preparing for the 2009 Spring Foray

Hotel Reservations

Please call the Kellogg Center directly and identify yourself as a Michigan Botanical Club Spring Foray participant to receive the special discounted room rate of $79 per night (plus taxes). Those wishing to share a room should make their own arrangements and advise the hotel who your roommate is. The deadline for room reservations is April 21st, After this date, room rates or availability cannot be guaranteed; this hotel fills up quickly, so please book a room early. Student Scholarships

Each chapter is responsible for arranging their own scholarship students’ reservations, meals and transportation plants, and chapters are advised to provide money to students early to avoid confusion.

Conference Registration

Submit conference registration form and payment to us by May 8, 2009. After checking in at the hotel, ask at the front desk for directions to the Big Ten Room, which is where Foray registration, programs and meals will take place.

What to Bring

Be prepared for a variety of weather conditions and for walking in a range of habitats, some of which will be wet! Wear good walking shoes and you may also need rubber boots, depending on the trip. Other recommended items to bring include: bug repellent, sunscreen, a hat, binoculars, raingear, a camera, hand lenses, and reference books.

FROM ANN ARBOR - US-23 North to I-96 West, to US-127 (exit 106) North (3.1 miles) to Trowbridge Road exit East (.5 miles) to Harrison Avenue; turn left North approximately 1 mile on the right (four traffic lights up).

FROM CHICAGO - I-94 East to I-69 North, to I-496 East; East (5 miles) to Trowbridge Road (exit 9) East (.5 miles) to Harrison Avenue; turn left North approximately 1 mile on the right (four traffic lights up).
