Field Trip - The Joan Rodman Plant Preserve

Joan Rodman Plant Preserve

Trip Leader: Sheila Collins-Bourgoin

The Joan Rodman Plant Preserve, in Lodi Township, is the only Michigan Nature Association Preserve in Washtenaw County. This 18 acre wooded preserve straddles the Saline River. We will focus on spring ephemerals, and also enjoy the many large trees and interesting glacial erratics. Expect an easy stroll; although the ground may be wet in spots in the early spring.

If there is time, we may take a quick jaunt into the salt springs, at Salt Spring Park, to look for some halophytes. This is the location of the noted salt springs/weeps.

Location: 4747 Saline Waterworks Road (between Ann Arbor-Saline Road and Dell Road). Follow the driveway to the MNA preserve sign and park along the logging road in the preserve.
