Lifetime Achievement Awards
The Lifetime Achievement Award was authorized by the MBC Board of Directors in October 1997. It is intended to be presented only on very special occasions.
Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Tony Reznicek
The first Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Dr. Edward G. Voss for his long-time service to the society and the completion of his monumental three-volume work, Michigan Flora. The award was presented to Dr. Voss in his office at the University of Michigan Herbarium by MBC Vice-President Dan Skean. It was a life-size carving of a dwarf lake iris, Iris lacustris, which had been hand-carved and painted by Jim Sams of London, Kentucky.
The second Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded posthumously to Dr. Warren H. Wagner, Jr. and was accepted by his wife, Dr. Florence Wagner
The third Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Emma B. Pitcher at the 2009 Spring Foray.
The fourth Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Frederick W. Case at the 2010 Spring Foray.
2011 Dr. Anton (Tony) A. Reznicek of the University of Michigan Herbarium for his work on the Field manual of Michigan flora book and website.
Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Sylvia Taylor
Dr. Burton V. Barnes received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2013 Fall Meeting.
2021 Sylvia M. Taylor received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2021 Fall Meeting for her important work in endangered species protection.
