Saturday, August 22, 10:00 am-1:00 pm, Prairie areas of Island Lake State Recreation Area

We will be visiting some hidden gems consisting of prairie areas under restoration by the DNR. We’ll see blazing stars, showy and stiff goldenrods, asters, and prairie grasses, among others. Lupine will be past bloom, but also in these areas.

Meeting area: Green Oak Village Place shopping center, Brighton, MI.

Far south side, near the Penny's store.

If you take 23 to the Lee Rd. Exit, take the roundabout to the right to the shopping center (be careful, can be confusing, don't want to get back on 23 North cause there's no exit for miles...)

At the shopping center crossroad, you'll see the Penny's store to the right.

Go to the last lane on the right to park.

There's a sign board and some benches at the edge of the road, and that's the entry to the prairie.

We will see this 5 acre site first, then decide about walking or driving to other areas in the park.
